The fast-moving Bryce Fire wildfire in Graham County scorched nearly 2,900 acres with containment at 25% as of Sunday night.

Forestry officials warned residents in the Fort Thomas area to prepare for evacuation by packing important documents, money, ID, prescriptions, water, and snacks.

On Saturday, firefighters experienced extreme fire behavior as the wind-driven flames advanced through the area's rugged and dry terrain.

The human-caused fire ignited last week near the Town of Pima, along U.S. 70.

An Arizona judge ruled that a Marana father charged with the hot-car death of his 2-year-old daughter can take a Hawaii vacation with his wife and other children before his October trial.

Christopher Scholtes, 37, is accused of leaving his daughter asleep in her car seat last July while he was inside the family's home playing video games for several hours. Scholtes said he left the car's air conditioning running.

Scholtes faces a charge of first-degree murder. In March, he rejected a plea deal on a charge of second-degree murder and a prison term of up to 25 years.

Ranchers in Cochise County urged local officials to seek changes to federal protections for the endangered Mexican gray wolf due to livestock deaths.

The number of gray wolves has continued to increase after wildlife officials reintroduced them into Arizona and New Mexico starting about 30 years ago.

Mike Wear, who owns an 18-square-mile ranch near Willcox, blamed the wolves for killing two of his cows, saying, "Every cow that I lose hurts my bottom line. Immensely."

Wild animal activist Greta Anderson said wolves inhabited the area long before cattle, and that ranchers are allowed to kill wolves caught in the act of killing livestock.
