Trump Rally Hits Madison Square Garden

Former President Donald Trump held a packed rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, drawing nearly 20,000 supporters inside and reportedly turning away tens of thousands more.

The six-hour event featured appearances by several high-profile guests, including Hulk Hogan, Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and a rare campaign appearance by former first lady Melania Trump.

Performers earlier in the rally included a comedian who drew extensive media criticism for ethnic and racial jokes. Trump's campaign said the jokes didn't reflect the views of the campaign.

During his speech, Trump announced a new policy proposal to support tax credits for family caregivers, outlined his immigration proposals, including enhanced deportation measures, and suggested legislation that would make burning the American flag punishable by one year in jail.

He concluded the rally with Frank Sinatra's New York, New York, expressing his desire to win the traditionally Democratic state.

Major Papers Drop Presidential Endorsements

Significant internal upheaval erupted at The Washington Post after the paper withdrew its planned endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris Friday, just days after the same move at the Los Angeles Times.

The Post, founded over a century ago but only endorsing presidential candidates since 1976, has now announced it will permanently end its endorsements, leading to the resignation of editor-at-large Robert Kagan.

At the L.A. Times, similar tensions arose when editorial board head Mariel Garza and two other board members resigned after owner Patrick Soon-Shiong blocked the endorsement process.

This trend mirrors industry concerns about how endorsements affect public perception of news. In 2020, 44 newspapers chose not to endorse any candidate—nearly matching the 47 that endorsed Joe Biden.
