Article Icon 1McAllen is Cost-of-Living Champ

McAllen landed the No. 1 spot on Realtor.com's new ranking of the top 10 cities in the U.S. with the lowest cost of living. El Paso came in at No. 10.

The list is based on regional price parities data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, comparing the cost of goods and services across metropolitan areas as a percentage of the national price level.

Low housing costs are the main factor keeping McAllen's cost of living low. The supply of available houses in the border community rose 41% over the last year. (See the List)

Article Icon 1City Attorney Sworn In, Resigns

Minutes after being sworn in as the interim city attorney for Aransas Pass last week, Carlos Valdez resigned and walked out of the city council meeting, apparently in response to comments about the firing of the former city attorney.

The former Nueces County DA and Corpus Christi district court judge interrupted a heated exchange and announced that he had changed his mind.

"You know what," Valdez said before leaving. "I'm going to back out of this. I'm submitting my resignation, effective immediately. You've got enough lawyers in the room."
