| Good Morning! On this day in 1859, Joshua Abraham Norton, an immigrant living in San Francisco, declared himself "Norton I, Emperor of the United States." Known as Emperor Norton, he later adopted the title "Protector of Mexico" in 1863 after Napoleon III's invasion of Mexico. A supermoon, Harvest Moon, and a partial lunar eclipse will be visible in the evening skies tonight, creating a celestial trifecta for stargazers. Check out our story for more details. | Man Charged in Trump Shooting AttemptAuthorities formally charged Ryan Wesley Routh with federal gun crimes on Monday in connection with an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Sunday. Appearing in a Florida courtroom, Routh was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Routh has an extensive criminal background, including more than 100 criminal counts in North Carolina. Routh is believed to have camped outside Trump's Florida golf course with food and a rifle for nearly 12 hours, lying in wait. The Secret Service became aware of Routh after an agent spotted what appeared to be a rifle poking out of a tree line during a perimeter sweep. An arraignment for Routh is scheduled for Sept. 30. | TikTok Disputes U.S. Ban in CourtTikTok appeared in a Washington D.C. appeals court on Monday to challenge a U.S. law that could lead to its ban unless sold by Chinese parent company ByteDance. The company argued that the legislation, prompted by national security concerns over user data vulnerability to Chinese exploitation, would have a "staggering" impact on free speech for its 170 million U.S. users. TikTok's lawyers denied links to the Chinese government and questioned the law's constitutionality, emphasizing it targets the app based on speculative future risks. While the immediate hearing involved a panel of three judges, legal experts anticipate the case could extend for months and potentially reach the Supreme Court due to its implications for free speech and national security. | Supermoon Rises TonightTonight’s full Harvest Moon is a rare combination of a partial lunar eclipse and a supermoon and has the potential to create a stunning spectacle for observers worldwide. The moon's path has brought it closer to the Earth, making it appear bigger and brighter than normal. Around 8:40 p.m. EST, it will enter the Earth's shadow, resulting in a supermoon and partial lunar eclipse. Numerous viewing options are available for those unable to view it outdoors. The livestreams are here.
