I've been lucky enough to visit Vegas a number of times already, and it's pretty amazing. There is so much to see and do and of course it isn't hard to grab yourself some amazing grub as well. When in Vegas, you definitely won't struggle to find something you like to eat, from popular fast-food joints to some of the top restaurants owned by world-renowned chefs. You will definitely be spoilt for choice and would no doubt enjoy every bite!
Here's just some of the food I've enjoyed on my visits to Vegas, and a selection of places we would recommend to try. If you have eaten at any of these places too, please share your experiences with me! Alternatively if you have any other recommendations, please do let me know, I have no doubt I'll be visiting this amazing place again.
Virgil's BBQ - serving great BBQ trays; choose your meat and sides and enjoy a very tasty feast. Virgil's is based down Linq Promenade just off the strip and you can catch some goods deals including a happy hour but watch out as you have to sit at the bar to get the happy hour offer I enjoyed ribs with pit beans and skin-on fries, Ben enjoyed brisket with slaw, mash and gravy and we both got cornbread too. Very delicious food and very tender meat that melted in your mouth. Would recommend eating here. I think this was actually our only full meal on our last visit to Vegas because breakfasts and "snacks" were always so huge!
Breakfast spots - when visiting America you can't not try Denny's. A fast food breakfast joint, who wouldn't love that? Well I do haha (Although I am a fan of a few of these breakfast chains like i-hop and omelette house to be honest!). My go to was Hash brown, eggs and bacon with a side of pancakes, my ultimate favourite American breakfast! Be prepared to wait for a table though, for 2 people I think we only waited 10/15 mins so that wasn't too bad. There are a few Denny's along the strip. Another great place we found for a quick breakfast was Ocean One within the Miracle Mile shopping precinct in Planet Hollywood. We pretty much got a table straight at the bar and enjoyed eggs, potatoes, lots of bacon and another a side of pancakes for me of course.
Mexican Food - We didn't eat a lot here but we popped by Chayo Mexican Kitchen just down Linq Promenade (seems to be a popular spot for us") and we had the nachos sharer. Wow, look at the size of this tray. It was great. Would recommend giving the food here a try. Oh and their Margaritas are class.
Olive Garden - again this is chain restaurant but if you like MASSIVE portions of pasta for very reasonable prices (not much of that in Vegas), then this is the place for you. I would say though that it is sad that a lot of food will most likely go to waste from this restaurant because the portions are that big, you should get a choice of a smaller portion really as I hate food waste. You get a free side salad with "breadsticks" or as I would describe them, baguettes lol. I went with Crispy Chicken Alfredo - the creamy sauce was very rich so I got very full very fast. Ben enjoyed the Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara. We didn't have to book and got a table straight away. Olive Garden is based in the same building as Brewdog, near the Coca Cola store on the strip.
In-N-Out Burger - so it felt like kind of "a thing" to visit here as it seems to be very popular amongst social media, and my group of friends, so I had to try it! It's a fairly typical American fast-food burger joint with a fairly small menu, but most likely because they know they serve good food that people want and they don't have to over do their offer. One of the things that you won't see on offer, but it is available on a "secret menu" is Animal Style fries; fries topped with bacon cheese and burger sauce. It's a typical; order, take a ticket, get your own drink, wait for your number to be called and find a table sort of place. I have to say I did enjoy the food (despite having one of the worst hangovers), BUT one question I still had was, which is better; Five Guys or In-N-Out. Have to say, my personal answer is Five Guys. Despite this, give it a go if you like a decent burger & fries and want to say that you've been! Located near the Linq hotel.
A firm favourite chain of mine whenever I've visited America has to be Buffalo Wild Wings. I came across this place when I travelled to Florida years ago, and have been a big fan ever since. It's basically a sports bar and a fast-food restaurant rolled into one, Serving chicken wings with different flavoured and different levels of spiced sauce. You can choose from boneless wings or on the bone, and sauce flavours such as buffalo (medium or hot), Honey BBQ, Bourbon Mustard, Asian Zing, Jerk and so on. As I love spicy food and can tolerate chilli a fair bit, I've tried the Buffalo Hot and the Asian Zing. Yes I do struggle towards the end of the wings, my mouth is on fire, but they are so tasty and worth it! Warning - when they say hot they MEAN hot. And they also serve typical american-sized portions...a "small" is 10 chicken wings!! Located in the middle of the strip behind McDonalds, I recommend trying here, let me know what you think.
Something a little different for breakfast? We love the sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich, another popular American chain (despite sounding very British). Packed full of yummy ingredients, it's a hangover cure for me! I've enjoyed the sandwiches here a few times and have tried the Turkey BLT with avocado and cheese and also the Chipotle Chicken Avocado which also comes with bacon. Located in Planet Hollywood and MGM hotels, I would definitely recommend having a sandwich here!
From fast-food to fine dining, we visited the Old Homestead Steakhouse in the Caesars Palace Hotel, an outpost of their New York landmark. One of the top-rated steakhouses, serving some superb cuts of beef, this restaurant offers real quality food with a fairly hefty price-tag, but if you love a good steak and you are happy to pay for great quality, it is worth it. We went past the starters as we wanted to focus on the star of the show, the steak. The 14oz New York strip served medium rare, wow, I could barely finish it! The 16oz American Wagyu rib-eye was delicious, a little fatty for how expensive it was, but great and topped with the "shrimp scampi" that were the size of my hand and were absolutely mouthwatering. If you're looking for good steak, a fine dining experience, great service and you're happy to pay 3 figures for it, go here.
Yes my New York strip was as big as my head!
We are fans of Gordon Ramsey, so were determined to visit one of his restaurants whilst in Vegas. Plus we had seen a video of Gordon making his Ultimate Cheeseburger so we really wanted to visit Gordon Ramsey's Burger located at Planet Hollywood.
Expect a little bit of a wait/queue to get in here as seating is on a first come first served basis. I have to say I kind of wish we hadn't bothered with a starter because one; I wasn't that impressed with the duck poppers (not much duck in them and a little bit greasy) and two; the burgers were superb but we struggled to finish them! "From traditional to unique burgers, the menu items at this Las Vegas restaurant use the freshest, quality ingredients. Beef patties are cooked over an open flame fuelled by hard woods — Gordon Ramsay Burger is the only gourmet burger restaurant on the Strip to use this method — creating a more complex and powerful flavour."
I went for the Hells Kitchen Burger that came with sadero cheese, roasted jalapeΓ±os, avocado, roasted tomatoes, jalapeΓ±o aΓ―oli. This has a fiery kick to it, but was delicious. I really struggled to eat it all but forced it down as it was bloody gorgeous! We also tried the Blue Cheeseburger with blue cheese, manchego cheese, figgy jam, arugula, cider vinegar reduction, spicy mayo. The sweet potato fries are also delicious! Not overly pricey, and really tasty, we would recommend eating here.
Some other noteworthy places to eat in Vegas we recommend are;
Eggslut - Cosmopolitan Hotel. Quirky gourmet food concept inspired by the love of eggs. Enjoy your food in an Alice in Wonderland themed dining area Down the Rabbithole...Recommended dish; GAUCHO. Seared wagyu tri-tip steak, cage-free over medium egg, chimichurri, red onions and dressed arugula in a warm brioche bun.
Beer Park - outside Paris Hotel opposite the Bellagio. Ok so I didn't eat here but I know they serve great food alongside some amazing beer & cider selections. I hear the mac n cheese rolls are amazing here. The beer flight is $16 and well worth a visit to enjoy a beer with a fabulous view!
Mon Ami Gabi - Paris Hotel. Al fresco dining at a French restaurant, a great place for breakfast. Bottomless coffee as well! I do wish we had have queued a bit longer to enjoy dining on the terrace, so I recommend you do this if you're willing to wait a little longer for a table.
I hope that I have given you some food for thought if you're travelling over to Vegas anytime soon. If you have any feedback or any recommendations yourself, please do share this with me!!
