Over four days, WHO will explore the topics behind the World Food Safety Day's theme: “Food standards save lives.” The topics of the webinars cover the standards behind food safety, food fortification and ways to estimate the burden of foodborne diseases, among others, and include updates on the WHO Global Strategy on Food Safety and a new WHO publication on whole genome sequencing. The Health Talks are hosted by the WHO Food Safety Community of Practice. Wednesday, 7 June Wednesday will mark World Food Safety Day which is an annual celebration to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks. Foodborne diseases affect 1 in 10 people worldwide each year. 1 million 600 000 people get sick due to unsafe food every day, on average. This year’s theme, “Food standards save lives”, highlights the role of established food safety practices and standards, which ensure food safety and quality. Jointly facilitated by WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Safety Day 2023 celebrations will be marked by a hybrid high-level event on 7 June, 12:15 – 13:30 CEST to discuss the food standards at the heart of food safety.
