The Most Popular Banana Recipes on My Blog + Freezing Tips

Hey there reader,

Today, I want to talk about ripe bananas, specifically the recipes to make with them and how to freeze them.

Now, I've never seen a scientific study on this, but I bet bananas are close to the #1 food to get thrown out every week.

You know the drill. You go grocery shopping and purchase 6-7 bananas, and then by the weekend, they're brown and not very appealing. I don't even want to think about the number of bananas I've thrown out over the years.

Anyway, a while back, I discovered that I could freeze bananas. Honestly, I don't know why this was such a revolution to me because just about everything can be frozen. But I didn't know that at the time, and now I do, so bananas never go wasted anymore.

Freezing bananas is super easy. When I'm in a huge rush, all I do is peel the bananas and throw them into a ziplock bag.

A few readers suggested I could make it even easier and leave them in the peel, but this did not work for me. It was way too high maintenance to get them out of the peel once they were frozen, even when I ran the bananas under warm water. So, I suggest freezing them without the peel.

When I have more time, I will freeze the bananas into portions to be recipe-ready. Then all I need to do is take out the amount I need, let the bananas thaw, and continue with the recipe. You can see more about freezing bananas in this tutorial I put together.

Here are the four most popular banana recipes on my blog. And they are the ones I make the most when I have ripe bananas.

banana bread

Healthy Banana Bread. Out of all the recipes on my blog, this might be the one I make most often. It truly is the most delicious banana bread recipe, and it's my foolproof recipe that turns out amazing every time. Also, I've made this recipe numerous times with 1:1 Bob's Red Mill gluten-free flour, and nobody knows the difference. So, if you're gluten-free, then it's an easy swap.

Banana Baked Oatmeal with chocolate chips. My youngest daughter loves this recipe, so I make large batches to keep in the freezer for a quick breakfast during the week. It's also a reader favorite and has been shared over 50K times on Pinterest.

Blueberry Banana Overnight Oats - another super popular recipe that's been pinned over 8000 times! It's easy to make and just what you need for a quick breakfast.

The last recipe I use ripe bananas in is by sticking them in a freezer smoothie pack with a bunch of other fruit and greens to make it super easy to prepare green smoothies in the morning. This blueberry smoothie is currently my favorite.

Most of these recipes use simple pantry ingredients, so if you have a stocked pantry, you can likely throw these recipes together without needing to make an extra trip to the store.

Just another quick tip. You can freeze baked goods, so you don't need to worry about having delicious banana bread or muffins lying around. Freeze into portions and then toss into bags for lunch. Baked goods take about 30 minutes to thaw on the counter, making them perfect for lunch or afternoon snacks.

If you make any of these recipes, I'd love for you to share a picture in our Facebook Group or tag me on Instagram. Also, it would be great if you could comment and rate the recipe on my blog.

Talk to you soon.
