On the way to school last Friday, my daughter Ella asked me who I was routing for on Super Bowl Sunday, and when in response I asked her who was playing, she laughed a lot, which made me very happy, because I'm not sure this almost 12-year-old is going to think I'm funny for too much longer.
Truly, I have no idea who is playing today, but I am attending a small gathering, and I'm testing out two new recipes: pizza wheels, based on a recipe I saw on the Ooni website, and a brown butter snickerdoodle cake — how good does that sound? — from Rebecca Firth's latest book: The Cake Book.
I will be sure to give you the full game day report 🍕🎂.
If you are looking for something to make this evening, I can't recommend this spinach-artichoke dip enough. It's based on Martha Stewart's recipe for hot crab dip, which calls for sautéing shallots, adding spices, then making a creamy sauce with half and half, cream cheese, and cheddar.
I use this formula here, omitting most of the spices, and using parmesan in place of cheddar. I also use my favorite grilled artichoke hearts from Trader Joe's and fresh baby spinach as opposed to frozen (though I'm sure frozen would work just fine here).
The result? Heaven! Rich but not exceedingly so, the flavors of the artichoke hearts and spinach prevailing.

12+ Favorite Dips
On Super Bowl Sunday a few years ago, I made for the first time this spicy cashew dip, a creamy — no-cream! — purée that can double as a dressing depending on how much water you add. I spent the entire game dipping pickled crudité into it, relishing this new, addictive discovery.
In this post you'll find twelve of my favorite dips for Super Bowl Sunday and beyond 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
