23 and 24 February The British Toxicology Society (BTS), the UK National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of animal use (NC3Rs) and HSE's Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) are jointly hosting a free, two-day virtual workshop. New approach methodologies have great promise in providing useful information for chemical hazard and risk assessment. In the last decade, significant investment has been made in developing new tools that can reduce reliance on animals and improve decision-making in chemical safety assessments. The workshop aims to raise awareness of currently available NAMs and explore how regulatory application and acceptance of these tools can be accelerated by overcoming the most significant barriers to their implementation. See the case study 'Considerations of risk-based vs hazard-based approaches to endocrine disruptors' regulation – do thresholds of adversity exist?' on page 53 of the 2021 review, and meet Andy Axon, one of our Regulatory Toxicologists on page 22.
