GDP Day

GDP monthly estimate, UK: December 2021

GDP first quarterly estimate, UK: October to December 2021

UK trade: December 2021

Commenting on today's GDP figures for December and Q4, ONS Director of Economic Statistics, Darren Morgan said:

"GDP fell back slightly in December as the Omicron wave hit with retail and hospitality seeing the biggest impacts. However, these were partially offset by increases in the Test and Trace service and vaccination programmes.

"Despite December's setback, GDP grew robustly across the fourth quarter as a whole with the NHS, couriers and employment agencies all helping to support the economy.

"Overall, GDP in December was in line with its level in February 2020, before COVID-19 struck, while in the fourth quarter as a whole, it was slightly below that of Quarter 4 2019."

We want your views

The ONS is seeking views on a new method for producing gross value added (GVA) data at subnational level. Details of our suggested approach are outlined in this article.

The aim is to eventually publish subnational data that offers the flexibility for users of our economic statistics to define and build their own geographies using the building blocks we produce.

As this is an experimental project, we would welcome your feedback using this consultation process to further its development.

This consultation is live until 7 March 2022.
