Divorces in England and Wales 2020 Main points - In 2020, there were 103,592 divorces granted in England and Wales, a decrease of 4.5% compared with 2019; of these, the majority were among opposite-sex couples (98.9%).
- The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has previously reported that family court activities were affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic during 2020, including the temporary suspension of operations by some courts for a period of time; this may have impacted the number and timeliness of completed divorces in 2020 but it is difficult to know the extent of the impact.

COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey, England: attitudes to vaccines and preventative measures, November to December 2021 The Office for National Statistics (ONS), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and UK Health Security Agency have released the first round of results from the relaunched COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey, a jointly led study, that has been continued again this academic year. The COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey (SIS) was initially set up during the 2020/2021 academic year to help better understand COVID-19 transmission in and from schools in England, by testing for COVID-19 infection and antibodies in pupils and staff in schools in selected areas. The study has now been launched again and expanded to be representative of all England. This school year, the study measures the presence of antibodies to COVID-19 among pupils in randomly sampled primary and secondary schools to understand infection and immunity. Alongside testing, questionnaires are sent to headteachers, pupils and parents to examine topics including attitudes to vaccines and preventative measures in schools. This release includes analysis of findings from the Headteacher, Parent and Pupil questionnaires from the survey, focusing on attitudes to vaccines and preventative measures in schools. Later this month we will be releasing further results from the questionnaires answered as part of the survey, looking at topics including Long COVID and mental health. Antibody results will also be available later this month. The coverage dates for each questionnaire are: - Parent – 22nd November to 15th December
- Pupil – 11th November to 15th December
- Headteacher – 25th November to 15th December
Main points: - Helping to protect other people from getting COVID-19 was the main motivation for teenagers getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
- For 62% of pupils aged 5-11, their parents said they were likely to agree to their child having the COVID-19 vaccine. For 24% of pupils aged 5-11, their parents said they were unlikely to agree to their child having the COVID-19 vaccine, and reasons for not wanting to vaccinate their children included worrying about the side effects (54%) and waiting to see how it works (49%).
- Nearly three-quarters (74%) of secondary school headteachers said pupils wearing face coverings in communal areas was a measure implemented in their school.
- Over three quarters (76%) of headteachers said that they were 'very willing' to use CO2 monitors in their schools' classrooms, and 87% of headteachers said that they had been supplied with CO2 monitors.
