Personal protective equipment at work regulations are changing

Employers' responsibilities to workers regarding the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) are changing from 6 April 2022.

The Personal Protective Equipment at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022 (PPER 2022) amend the current Regulations to extend employers' and employees' duties in respect of PPE to a wider group of workers.

HSE has provided interim guidance explaining the changes and what employers may need to do in preparation.

Our PPE at work website contains further advice and guidance.

HSE safety notice: offshore crane boom hoist rope failures

HSE has issued a safety notice following two separate incidents that occurred on offshore installations as a result of the failure of a crane boom hoist rope.

In both incidents the boom hoist rope came off a sheave. This was undetected and the resulting severe damage to the ropes ultimately led to their catastrophic failure.

Although no one was injured in either incident, both had the potential to cause death or serious injury to those involved in the lifting operations and others on the installations.

Read the safety notice for full details.

Find out about the National Underground Asset Register

The Geospatial Commission is building a digital map of underground pipes and cables that will revolutionise the way we install, maintain, operate and repair our buried infrastructure - the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR).

The NUAR will create an access controlled, digital, secure and auditable data sharing platform enabling owners of underground assets to share their data for the purposes of excavation planning and safe digging.

If you want to find out more what this means for your organisation, especially if you are an owner or operator of buried infrastructure, please get in touch at geospatialcommission@cabinetoffice.gov.uk
