Hi reader,
I have been teaching families how to save money on real food for 10 years now, but something struck me in the past year or so that has stuck with me ever since…
Instead of starting the month with a grocery budget of $300 or $500 or $700 (or whatever your budget may be)...
What if your budget was zero?
Let's close our eyes and put ourselves in that actual situation for a moment. What would change?
In short, everything!
- You'd change what you make for dinner.
- You'd pause before throwing something away.
- You'd rethink everything on your shopping list.
- You'd second guess everything you put in your cart.
- You'd go above and beyond to make sure you got the most out of every dollar spent - both at home, and at the store.
But shouldn't this be the case all the time?
If our goal is to save money on healthy food, then why would we wait until our budget is zero before giving so much thought to how we spend our money?
I love to give practical tips in my weekly newsletters, but sometimes we need a punch in the gut and a reality check. So I send this note today with lots of love, grace, and encouragement.
I hope the next time you're thinking about dinner, throwing something away, or putting something in your cart, that you ask yourself the same question above…
What if your budget was zero? What would you do differently?
♥ Tiffany
