Hi reader,
I don't know about you, but I'm finding it hard to ignore the rising cost of food.
- I see it at the grocery store.
- I see it at coffee shops.
- I see it online when I'm comparing prices.
It's staring me in the face everywhere I go, and while I'm always looking for ways to save money, sometimes it's important to revisit the basics that you may have forgotten along the way.
Like sales.
Not all sales are good.
Not all sales are worthy of your attention.
In fact, some sales should be ignored altogether!
I'll have some in-depth training on this later this spring (click here to be notified when it's ready via email!), but in the meantime, here are a few common sales that really aren't that good:
1. Buy one get one half off
As tempting as this deal may sound, this really isn't a good deal at all. Buying two items to get one of them half off is the same as each of them 25% off.
If this was a department store or warehouse I'd say definitely check this deal out.
But for a grocery store, this is not a good deal at all.
Food goes on sale for 50% off fairly often, and everything in the store will hit this sale price at some point in the sale cycle – whether it's advertised or not.
2. 10 for $10
Grocery stores love to play with numbers and make you think there are restrictions on the sale that aren't really there… and these "restrictions" usually work in the store's favor.
10 for $10 sales are a perfect example. When you see these sales, you assume you have to buy 10 items, right?
Not true!
What this really means is the store has set the price of the sale items at $1 each.
Meaning you can buy one item at $1, or 5 items for $1 each.
You don't have to buy 10 to get the sale price!
Here's a bonus tip – the same goes for other quantity sales too like 2 for $5 and 3 for $6. Unless the fine print says otherwise, you can get each item for $2.50 or $2, respectively.
3. Buy 10 get one free
It's amazing how the word free gets our ears to perk up. Not surprisingly, that's what stores are relying on in these types of sales.
They want us to hear the word free, and pretend we didn't hear "buy 10".
The catch with buy 10 get 1 free sales is that you're not saving much money – just 9%.
Plus you have to buy 10 items first, which for most people is a lot more than they'd typically buy. Unless the sale is for something you truly use often enough to warrant buying 10 at a time, this deal is not worth it.
Have you ever wondered if a sale is really worth it or not? Hit "reply" and share your thoughts with me - we'll figure it out together!
ALL my best ♥,
PS: One sale I am keen on is stacked discounts. My favorite collagen by Perfect Supplements is a prime example!
When you buy any three Perfect Supplements brand products, you automatically save 20%. PLUS you can stack on an additional 10% savings with coupon code CRUMBS10.
Now, I won't recommend you buy three products if you don't need them, but if you need to restock on collagen or any of their other great products, stacking discounts is the way to go!
