The one small silver lining of a quarantine Valentine's Day is that it will be spent where the holiday is best enjoyed: right at home. This kitschy holiday is also the most fun when you lean into your audience: Who in your life (you can and should count yourself!) needs to be shown love, and how can you treat them on a cold February weekend? I suggest a massive plate of cacio e pepe, a box of Bon Bon Bons, and a cozy date with your television — swanky spy show or romantic melodrama, take your pick.
I asked the Kitchn team who their Valentine is this year, and how they're celebrating, and I ended up bookmarking more than one of their sweet plans.
I second the low-key plan of Sunday pancakes (these are definitively, hands-down, always and forever, the best pancakes and the only recipe I use). I have a bag of Reese's hearts not-so-secretly stashed in the pantry for my husband, and I may pick up a couple of these goofy heart headbands for my little girls. I want to make a batch of this Valentine's sweet puppy chow too.
In a winter that needs all the warmth and sweetness we can throw at it, I hope you have a plan in mind for you yourself, for Valentine's: something delicious, a treat just for you.
Yours in peanut butter and chocolate,
