I am ALL about simplicity. That's why I love to create real food recipes that are healthy, simple, and frugal.
To me, simple also means having my pantry organized with the fewest amount of staple ingredients that I need to make delicious recipes.
But do you know what I found the other day when I organized my pantry?
A full bottle of a spice blend for a recipe that I tried one time! ONE TIME!
There it sat in the back of my pantry, and there went the $6.00 I spent to buy it.
YIKES!
Do you ever find random jars of ingredients that you bought for a recipe, fully intending to use it up, but ended up using only once?
These items often become waste, or clutter, or both!
But guess what? I have a great method to solve this common problem. It's called using substitutions!
YES! Substitutions are a perfect way to make that new recipe, without the waste of precious time, food, and money!
Did you know that you can substitute:
- Cinnamon + nutmeg + cloves for allspice?
- Ground ginger for cardamom?
- All purpose flour + baking powder + salt + baking soda for self-rising flour?
For more substitutions, check out this blog post, 25 Food Substitutions to Save You Money!
I think you will find some great ideas that you can start using today!
Blessings,
ALL my best ♥,
