Got a Sweet Tooth? Don't Miss 3 Easy Spanish Desserts 🍰

Got a sweet tooth? 😋

So do we! Here in Spain, we LOVE our sweets:

  • For breakfast: churros and chocolate, croissants or bread with jam, pastries like the famous napolitana de chocolate (a sort of chocolate-filled croissant), or a simple ensaimada dusted with powdered sugar.
  • For mid-morning snack: for those of us who didn't opt for something sweet first thing in the morning, we might enjoy it for our "second breakfast" (a mid-morning snack).
  • For lunch: well... for dessert after lunch! Lunch is usually our largest meal of the day and traditionally includes a small postre (dessert). This could be cake, flan, pudding, or fresh fruit.
  • For merienda: the Spanish merienda (afternoon snack) is sacred -- it's almost like a 4th meal! You can go sweet or savory, and the sweets to look out for all come from local pastelerías (pastry shops). Huge meringues, eggy torrijas (a cross between bread pudding and French Toast), and cream-filled brioche buns are a few examples of what you'll find.
Hungry yet?!
