COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Minnesota has large-scale, permanent community vaccination sites in Minneapolis, Duluth, and Rochester. These COVID-19 Community Vaccination Program sites will continue to vaccinate people age 65 and older.

More than 220,000 Minnesotans age 65 and older pre-registered for COVID-19 vaccine. Minnesotans who have not been selected from the registry will remain on this list and continue to have the opportunity to be selected to schedule an appointment at the state's COVID-19 community vaccination sites.

In addition to the permanent sites, the state is sending doses of COVID-19 vaccine to more than 100 hospitals, clinics, and other health care providers to administer vaccines to Minnesota seniors. A new Federal Retail Pharmacy Program also starts this week where vaccine will be available to Minnesotans 65 and older at certain Walmart and Thrifty White locations. (See Minnesota Expanding Vaccine Network with Pharmacy Vaccinations This Week.)

Minnesotans age 65 and older can use the online vaccine locator map to Find Vaccine Locations near them and contact those health care providers with questions. Please note that vaccine supply is still limited, so appointments may not always be available.

Education and child care staff will be contacted directly if selected to sign up for vaccine appointments. Local public health departments will partner directly with school and child care programs in their communities.

St. Cloud Community Testing Site Closed February 22 – March 2

The COVID-19 community testing site at River's Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud will be closed temporarily from Feb. 22 through March 2 for a previously scheduled event.

COVID-19 testing will resume on March 3 with its regular schedule of being open Wednesday through Sunday.

During this temporary closure, we encourage residents to continue seeking out COVID-19 testing.

  • Order a mail-in saliva test through the COVID-19 Test at Home program. This program allows Minnesotans to order the same test kit that is used at the community testing site, at no cost to them.
  • Use the COVID-19 testing map to Find Testing Locations near you, including hospitals or other clinics.
  • Look for other COVID-19 Community Testing Sites that may be close to you. Sites within a 60-mile radius of St. Cloud include Anoka, Brooklyn Park, and Hutchinson.

What's New

Minnesota Resource Allocation Program

The Minnesota Resource Allocation Platform is a new online tool that connects patients and health care providers with COVID-19 medications that are in limited supply. The platform also helps to distribute these medications in an equitable way when there is not enough for everyone who needs them.

COVID-19 patients, their caregivers, or their health care providers can use the MN Resource Allocation Platform to find out which medications are available, whether they will help the person with COVID-19, and whether the person is able to get medication.

To get these medications, you must have COVID-19 symptoms and proof of a positive COVID-19 test (saliva or nasal swab). You also need to fill out the MN Resource Allocation Platform Screening Form to see if you may be able to get one of the medications.

If you can get a COVID-19 medication, the MN Resource Allocation Platform passes along information on your behalf to a health care facility that can give it. A final decision about whether you can get a medication is up to the health care provider at that facility.

How to Take an At-Home Saliva Test

Minnesota and Vault Medical Services have teamed up to offer at-home COVID-19 saliva testing for everyone who lives in Minnesota, with or without symptoms, at no cost. Visit Vault: No-Cost COVID Testing For All Minnesotans to order your at-home test kit.

Once your test arrives, take your COVID-19 test and send it in as soon as possible. If you have COVID-19, the sooner you know, the sooner you can take steps to keep it from spreading to others.

Do not eat, chew, or drink anything (even water) for at least 30 minutes before you take your test.

When you are ready to take the test, you will log in to a virtual waiting room and do a video visit with a Vault test supervisor. You may have to wait for some time in the virtual waiting room, as a lot of people are taking tests. The test supervisor will give you instructions and make sure you do the test and pack it the right way.

Visit COVID-19 Test at Home to watch the new video and learn more.
