Texas Recognizes Supportive Palliative Care Awareness Day on October 10, 2026On October 10, Texas will observe Supportive Palliative Care Awareness Day, a recognition day established by Senate Bill 739 during the 88th Texas Legislature to raise awareness about supportive palliative care and its role in optimizing quality of life for seriously ill patients and their families. Supportive palliative care is patient-and family-centered care for people living with serious illness. It focuses on comfort, symptom management, care planning, and support for physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. It is appropriate at any stage of serious illness, not only at the end of life, and can be provided alongside treatments intended to cure, control, or manage disease. Serious illness can affect every aspect of a person’s life. Supportive palliative care teams partner with patients, families, caregivers, and other health care professionals to anticipate, prevent, and relieve distressing symptoms; support informed, values-based decision-making; and help patients and families prepare for what lies ahead. Texans are encouraged to mark Texas Supportive Palliative Care Awareness Day by sharing educational information, personal stories, and resources that highlight the value of compassionate, coordinated care for people with serious illnesses and their loved ones.
