New return to professional driving courses are now available

Reforms to Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) were passed by UK Parliament in October 2024.

One of these reforms allows people whose Driver CPC has expired for at least 60 days, but no more than two years ago, to return to professional driving by undertaking a 7 hour return to driving course.

This comes into force today (1 February 2025).

New courses available

Completion of the return to driving course will allow drivers whose qualification has run out in the last two years to be able to return to driving with a National Driver CPC.

They must then complete the remaining 28 hours of training within the next 12 months in order to receive a card with the remaining four year's validity.

The updated guidance on Driver CPC is now available on GOV.UK and the return to driving courses will be available to book with existing Driver CPC courses.
