Click here Friday, 10 January 2025 | Issue 286 UKRAINE: Delivering supplies in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, July 2023 Tuesday, 14 January The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Commission on the definition and diagnostic criteria of clinical obesity On 14 January at 23:30 GMT, the Commission on Clinical Obesity will publish new findings on the definition and diagnosis of clinical and pre-clinical obesity in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. These findings will offer a more nuanced and objective method to assess obesity and its health impacts at the individual level, while also addressing some limitations of the traditional diagnostic approach. An embargoed media briefing will be held at 12:00 GMT on Monday 13 January at the UK Science Media Centre, with a global launch event on 16 January from 13:00-15:00 GMT (register here). Thursday, 16 January High-Level Launch of the WHO Health Emergency Appeal for 2025 The event, from 15:00-16:00 CET, will be live-streamed from WHO website and on WHO’s social media channels, including on Facebook, Instagram, and X. This appeal identifies the critical priorities and resources required to address 42 ongoing health emergencies, including 17 Grade 3 crises—the most severe. These emergencies demand a coordinated, well-resourced global response to save lives, protect health, and restore hope to communities on the brink of collapse. A 30 minute Q&A for media will follow; a media advisory will be sent next week with the details.
