Repair crews continued working around the clock to restore power following this week's winter storm, with the Brunswick area hit particularly hard by outages.

Roadway crews also kept busy, mostly in rural areas, where they urged drivers to stay home while they worked to clear highways and local streets of snow and ice.

In Brunswick, more than 400 Georgia Power workers rushed to the area after outages affected over 30,000 homes. As of early Thursday, power had not been fully restored.

Article Icon 1 Snow Totals Vary Across State

Cities in middle and south Georgia received wide-ranging amounts of snow from this week's winter storm, from 3 inches in Savannah to 9 inches in Cordele.

Savannah's fourth-biggest snowfall on record led to road and street closures that extended into Thursday while turning the area into a winter play zone for families.

For some areas, the snow was their first since 2018. Still, the totals fell short of a 1973 storm that dropped more than a foot in many places after "it was just supposed to be a cloudy morning."

Snow totals in metro Atlanta ranged from 0.4 inches in Midtown to 1.1 inches at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Valdosta picked up 4 inches, Columbus 2-3 inches, and Augusta 1-2 inches.

Article Icon 1Billy Wagner's Shining Season

The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced on Tuesday that Billy Wagner had been elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Wagner's time with the Atlanta Braves was short but memorable.

Wagner pitched most of his games in Houston but wrapped up his 16-year career in Atlanta in 2010, posting 37 saves, a 1.43 ERA, and 104 strikeouts in 69.1 innings as the closer.

The Braves organization and fans reacted to his selection to the Hall of Fame by hailing him as one of the franchise's legends, filling up social media sites with congratulatory posts.

Wagner broke down in tears when he received the call.
