Yvonne "Missy" Woods, a former Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) forensic scientist, has been charged with 102 felonies for allegedly mishandling DNA that impacted over 1,000 cases.

The charges, including forgery, perjury, cybercrime, and attempting to influence a public servant, arise from allegations of data manipulation spanning from 2008 to 2023.

Investigators found Woods deleted or altered DNA data to expedite casework, compromising high-stakes cases such as homicides and sexual assaults.

Her actions have caused significant backlogs in evidence testing, with the state allocating $7.4 million to address the fallout. Woods' cash-only bond has been set at $50,000.

A new report has revealed that deteriorating roads, congestion, and safety issues are costing Colorado drivers $11.4 billion annually.

According to the report, 24% of major roads and 5% of bridges are in poor condition, leading to $831 in additional vehicle operating costs per driver each year.

Traffic congestion—now surpassing pre-pandemic levels—wastes significant time and fuel, costing $4.8 billion statewide. Safety concerns also persist, with traffic crashes claiming 679 lives annually and adding $2.9 billion in costs due to inadequate roadway features.

Despite recent funding increases, the Colorado Department of Transportation faces a $350 million annual shortfall to address these issues. Read the full report.

Another round of snow and cold is set to blanket parts of the state this weekend.

Snow is expected to begin Friday evening in the mountains and spread to the foothills and the I-25 corridor by Saturday morning.

Denver could see 1-3 inches of snow, with 3-6 inches in areas like Boulder and Conifer. The northern mountains could experience significant snowfall, with totals reaching up to 20 inches.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate, particularly during Friday evening's commute along I-70 and throughout Saturday. Gradual clearing is expected on Sunday, though temperatures will remain chilly.
