Article Icon 1Roberson Execution on Hold For Testimony

A Texas House committee will hear testimony today from Robert Roberson, whose execution for the 2002 death of his 2-year-old daughter was halted Thursday after the committee issued him a subpoena for today’s hearing.

The Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence will examine a Texas law that authorizes the review of convictions obtained using outdated scientific methods. Roberson was convicted of killing his daughter based on a controversial diagnosis of “shaken baby syndrome.”

After the committee issued the subpoena, a Travis County judge ordered a halt to his execution last Thursday, just hours before it was scheduled to take place. Attorney General Ken Paxton appealed the ruling, which was then overturned by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Finally, the Texas Supreme Court ordered a stay of the execution at 9:40 p.m. Thursday night. Paxton has asked the court to reconsider their decision and issue a ruling by noon today when Roberson is scheduled to testify.

SB Energy estimates that the solar farm will employ 3,000 workers and contribute $100 million to local services over its lifespan.
