Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bites of Aedes mosquitoes infected with the chikungunya virus. It has been identified in nearly 115 countries in all the continents except Antarctica. The most common symptom is an abrupt onset of fever, often accompanied by joint pain, sometimes very severe that usually lasts a few days but can persist for months or even years. The name “chikungunya” comes from the African Makonde language and means "bent over in pain." This Webinar will draw attention to chikungunya disease with the focus on the current situation in the Americas and the response from WHO and PAHO. Speakers:
