Today we are blending up this peach raspberry smoothie. This delicious smoothie recipe uses juicy peaches and sweet raspberries; it's creamy, delicious, refreshing, and packed with nutrients and antioxidants.
I don't use peaches often in smoothie recipes, but when I do, I always ask myself why I don't use them more. Peaches create a creamy consistency and add a sweet flavor to the smoothie. Even though this recipe includes a banana, you could leave it out if you want to reduce the sugar.
If you want more substance, try adding avocado for more good fats, protein, and fiber. I think ¼ of an avocado is a good amount to get some benefits without tasting too strongly. You can freeze leftover avocado chunks to use in a future smoothie. Here are my tips on freezing avocado.
Shopping tips
If it's peach season, I'd grab some fresh peaches, cut them into chunks (leave the skin on), and freeze them to use in these smoothies. You'll get the best juicy peach flavor this way! But if it's not peach season, grab a bag of frozen peach slices; I've seen large bags of frozen peaches in grocery stores but not wholesale stores.
And, like I said yesterday, you can purchase organic frozen raspberries at a much better price than fresh ones. At least where I live in Buffalo, NY.
Smoothie tips
What other smoothie liquids should I use?
My favorite smoothie liquid is unsweetened coconut milk; it adds a delicious creaminess to the smoothie. It also includes good fat to keep you full longer. You can find this in the grocery store dairy section next to the other kinds of milk.
I have also used unsweetened almond milk. You can also use coconut water, rice milk, soy milk, or just plain water. Any liquid would be fine.
However, I would not use dairy milk because this inhibits the cleansing and detoxifying benefits of a healthy smoothie. Use filtered water if you don't have any other liquids.
