Mississippi Public Health Update June 28, 2022 COVID-19 Update Most Mississippi counties now have high or medium COVID-19 activity. Daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to MSDH have continued to trend upward, and hospitalizations for COVID-19 have steadily risen as well, with 264 Mississippians currently hospitalized for COVID-19 as of June 27. Seniors at greatest risk While COVID-19 is affecting Mississippians of all ages, those aged 65 and over are at highest risk of death. Being fully vaccinated and current with any boosters is the best protection against serious illness. How to get vaccinations and boosters Help with getting a vaccination or booster: 877-978-6453 Check the COVID-19 level in your county COVID-19 activity level and recommendations from the CDC Stay protected Wear a mask in public places, including public transportation. Have a home test kit ready. How to get free test kits Get tested if you are ill. If you think you've been exposed, get tested as soon as you experience symptoms, or after 5 days without symptoms. If you do become ill with COVID-19, talk to a doctor right away about treatment with Paxlovid to reduce the severity of illness, especially if you're over 65 or have a chronic illness. MSDH offers free COVID-19 testing around the state, and COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at county health departments. Report a positive home test now Monkeypox in the U.S. Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by a virus, but human cases are now being reported in the U.S. and many other countries. Monkeypox usually begins with symptoms like headache, fever and swollen lymph nodes, but progresses to a rash after 1-3 days. More than twenty-five U.S. states have identified cases of monkeypox. No cases have been reported in Mississippi. Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close personal contact, including skin-to-skin contact. If you have symptoms of monkeypox, especially a new or unexplained rash, see your healthcare provider. Avoid close contact with others until you have received medical attention.
