HSE's month-long respiratory health inspection initiative targeting construction sites is coming to an end. We are reminding employers and workers about the risks associated with everyday tasks and how hazardous construction dust, including respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and wood dust, can affect the long-term health of workers. Our Dust Kills campaign website has information for employers, small builders and construction workers on the consequences of: - not knowing the risks
- not planning the work
- not using the right controls
We also have a set of short videos in which HSE's Chief Medical Advisor, Professor David Fishwick highlights the risks of breathing problems due to exposure to construction dust. Watch the HSE Dust Kills videos. You can also continue to follow the campaign on: | HSE's Working Minds campaign on mental health brings together a range of things to help businesses and workers understand the best ways to prevent work related stress and encourage good mental health. You can help to increase engagement and ensure we reach the people who need advice and support. There are three things you can do to support this campaign: Promote the campaign within your networks by asking them to: Demonstrate by showcasing the good work being done. Can you provide us with case studies about: - What you have done to prevent the causes of poor mental health in the construction industry
- Practical experiences of using our talking toolkit and the actions you took as a result
- Achieving, or working towards achieving the ISO 45003 standard ('the management of psychosocial risks and promoting well-being at work') as a small construction business
If so, please complete this short form. Champion the campaign by becoming a Working Minds champion.
