How I got my grandma hooked on kombucha

Hi reader,

When my grandma (Nana) visited during a long weekend for grandparent's day, she was knee-deep in cuddles and books… and kombucha.

"What's that thing floating at the top?" she asked when I was giving a small jar containing a SCOBY with starter to a mom in the car line.

"That's a SCOBY. It's what ferments the tea," I replied. I got a semi-blank stare, so I said "It's like a fungus, but it's good bacteria" and that seemed to make more sense.

I laugh when I think about explaining SCOBYs and fermentation to my grandma, but it's exciting to hear her say that making kombucha is something she'd like to do (with the caveat that she had written instructions, which she will since I wrote a step-by-step tutorial post on making kombucha and all I have to do is hit "print").

I brewed the batch of kombucha my grandma tried with a special blend of tea and herbs like echinacea, rose hips and hibiscus (which flavors the tea without a second ferment.) She said it wasn't too sweet (which is a good thing) and tasted way better than any store-bought drink she's tried. These are pretty high praises in my book!

Kombucha is SO good for your gut and your overall health and I'm super excited that my grandma is on board. Just like my friend in the car line,
I'm sending my grandma home to Chicago with a jar of SCOBY, starter kombucha and a bag of tea. Oh, and of course, the printed tutorial.

I figure if my grandma can make kombucha using these instructions, anyone can!

Cheers (with a glass of kombucha) to a healthy gut!

ALL my best ♥,

PS – In the kombucha tutorial I shared above I give you ideas on how to source materials to build your own kombucha brewing system. I'm all about using tools and supplies you already have.

That mindset carries over to meal planning too! I ALWAYS shop my pantry first before going to the grocery store. This habit saves me TONS of money and helps me to reduce food waste.

I have two bundles in the upcoming Black Friday in July sale that will help you use that strategy!

  • Meal Planning Bundle
  • Dinner from the Pantry Bundle

This sale is coming up soon with some exclusive resources that haven't been publicly available before!
