The invasion of Ukraine has united government leaders from across the aisle and around the globe in an effort to defend democracy. As public officials across the political spectrum come out in public support of aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, they are building political bridges that will be crucial to address the complex challenges facing today’s democracies.
What unique aspects of this crisis have empowered officials to see past political and party lines to coordinate their responses? What bipartisan principles established during this crisis can be used to help protect democracies and account for the safety of people in conflict zones?
