Hey there reader,
I'm not a big believer in luck. Sure, I think you could be in the right place at the right time - but if you're not prepared to seize the moment, then it won't matter.
However, even if luck is a thing, I'm not one to wait around for my "lucky day." I'm more about creating my own luck.
Years ago, I spent many days (years!) waiting around for life to get better. I don't know; maybe I thought life would magically go the way I wanted it to if I complained enough.
It wasn't until I had my "a-ha" moment and started my weight loss journey that I realized life does not get better by chance - it gets better by choice.

This was me at 177lbs. I was overweight, and I had a horrible sense of fashion - clearly, it was more about comfort.
In October 2010, it hit me like a ton of bricks that I was the one who completely controlled my life.
Of course, there will always be circumstances beyond my control, but, in the end, I control the food and drinks I consume, whether or not I exercise, and if I choose to live in a stressful, chaotic environment. That's all on me.
Therefore, my life finally changed because I took responsibility for my actions. Not because the weight loss gods finally heard my prayers and came to save me. Nope!
I didn't fall into weight loss by chance. I changed the way I ate and got off the couch. I put habits and routines to stop living in the "hot zone."
To be honest, it was pretty liberating to take control back over my life. Before losing weight, all I wanted to do was lose weight; I had no idea how I would change on the inside.
I felt confident, happy, and focused, and for the first time, I truly believed in myself and that anything was possible.
I know that might sound a little hokey, but I felt stuck until that moment. I didn't think it was possible to make the changes needed to lose weight and change my life. I felt like I had "tried" many times before, and it just wasn't in the cards for me.
But I did it!
I changed the direction of my life because of the choices I made, not by chance and not because of luck. But because I wake up every day and focus on staying intentional with my decisions.
This is me today. I weigh 155lbs and am a size 8. I still have weight to lose, but I feel healthy, confident, and happy. I'm a different girl from the first picture, and that girl is long gone.
Of course, I'm not saying this happened overnight or that I'm perfect. Years later, I still slip up and need to go back to basics. I'm human.
However, the difference today is I understand that the direction of my life is in my hands, and I take full responsibility for that.
So whether I veg out to Netflix for hours or run 4 miles on my treadmill, I own it. If I can't fit into my jeans or feel sluggish, I have nobody to blame but the woman looking back at me in the mirror.
Most importantly, I've learned that a healthy lifestyle is about consistent habits and routines. I can't expect to see results by exercising once in a while or meal prep when I feel like it. It needs to be a lifestyle. Or better yet, it needs to become my new favorite hobby.

The takeaway here is don't wait for your life to change magically. Unfortunately, life doesn't get better by chance.
Change happens when:
- You are ready for things to be different.
- You accept YOUR role and take personal responsibility for where you're at in life.
- Create a plan.
- Take consistent action on that plan every day.
These are the four things I did and continue to do, so I can live the life I want every day.
As I said, it's not always easy, but you can do it.
And there's nothing more gratifying and motivating than seeing the results of your hard work and taking control back over your life.
Always remember, you have the power to change your life.
Have a great day!
