A round-up of all our latest news and updates.

Annual accounts – file on time, file online

File Online

If you're due to file your accounts with us by the end of the month, use our online services where possible and allow plenty of time before your deadline. It's cheaper, easier and faster to file online.

You should only send paper accounts if your company cannot file online. For all online filings, you'll need your company authentication code.

Are you the director of a dormant company? While you may not need to file accounts for a dormant company with HMRC, a limited company must still file a confirmation statement and annual accounts with Companies House. Visit our blog to make sure you know what your responsibilities are.

New powers to crack down on directors who dissolve companies to avoid debts

The Insolvency Service has been granted new powers, on behalf of The Business Secretary, to investigate and disqualify the former directors of dissolved companies.

It means that rogue directors who dissolve their companies and avoid paying liabilities to staff, creditors and the taxpayer can now be disqualified from being a director if misconduct has occurred.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates

Here are the latest updates on the government's response to COVID-19 in England. News and guidance for other UK nations is available:

Get boosted now

Vaccines remain the best way to protect ourselves and others. The government is calling on everyone to support the booster programme to avoid the NHS being overloaded and to keep the economy open.

Businesses can help by:

  • encouraging employees to get a booster (or first and second jab) and supporting them to do it in the best possible way – this might include giving them time off to get the jab
  • promoting the booster campaign to their customers/supply chain/stakeholder networks
  • releasing staff to help with the volunteer effort, either as healthcare professionals or as general volunteers (if operationally feasible)

A toolkit of materials for businesses to use is available on the coronavirus resource centre. This includes an employer toolkit.

COVID passes

The government has put together a communications toolkit that provides a range of resources for venues and settings to show that proof of COVID status is required. These resources can also be used by those venues where proof of COVID status is not mandatory but they wish to use it on a voluntary basis.

There's also detailed guidance available for venues, employees and the public
