This is when it changed for me (before and after pics)

Hey there reader

Often readers ask about my turning point with losing weight. What was the moment that finally motivated me to create real, sustainable changes? So, today I'm going to answer that question.

Let's take it back to 2010.

I was 34 years old, working full-time outside the home, with two little kids (5 and 3), and 177 pounds.

My life was utterly chaotic, stressful, and I lived every day in survival mode.

I was tired and couldn't focus on creating any change. Anytime I tried to move forward, I'd get sucked back into the daily grind of life and fall face-first into old unhealthy habits. It was a horrible cycle.

Even though I had many things to be grateful for, a massive part of me was discouraged and unhappy. I hated the way I felt and looked.

But, in October 2010, I had a couple of turning points.

It started with seeing pictures of myself showing up on Facebook. People didn't get the memo that I needed to review and approve all images before being tagged in them. Ha!

I was embarrassed when I saw pictures of the person I had become, and all I could think about were my friends and family looking at those pictures in shock. Of course, they probably didn't care, but that's how I felt.

I knew that wasn't the person I wanted to be or could be. However, Facebook and the internet made it very difficult to deny the person I had become. It was a crappy feeling.

Here are a few pictures of me before my weight loss turning point.

Don't even get me started on my style!

This picture was taken about two weeks before I started my weight loss journey.

After being repeatedly slapped in the face with more pictures and videos, I knew I was ready for change. I couldn't take the way I looked or felt anymore.

Then my second turning point came - I got a smartphone and discovered My Fitness Pal. You can say technology played an essential role in my lifestyle changes.

My Fitness Pal was a HUGE game changer for me. Up until then, I thought I ate healthily. I'm serious; I didn't understand how or why I could've gained 60+ pounds over the last decade or so. I didn't eat at fast food joints, and I even owned a treadmill. Well, that didn't cut it.

The first day I tracked calories using My Fitness Pal, I was entirely shocked by the amount of food I ate. In fact, by 2:00 pm, I consumed over 2500 calories and didn't even eat dinner yet. Yup!

Most of my calories came from coffee drinks, salad dressing, cheese, and my children's leftovers.

This was a huge eye-opener, and it became crystal clear the reasons I gained so much weight and couldn't lose it. It was simple - I overate and moved too little.

You'd think I could've figured this out on my own, but denial can be an incredible force in one's life. But there was no denying the facts anymore.

The pictures told a thousand words, and My Fitness Pal told thousands of calories.

At that point, I accepted where I was. I got on the scale, took a deep breath, and looked down. I started at 177 lbs.

Then I began holding myself accountable for the food I ate and started to make the changes that eventually led to taking control back over my life.

Not only did I lose weight, but I transformed into a happier, healthier, more confident woman.

Eleven years later, I have lost a total of 40lbs and feel like the best version of me.

I'm 46 years old now and feel better than ever. I wear clothes that I'd never even thought of wearing 10-15 years ago.

Now I stand in front of my husband and kids instead of hiding behind them.

Today, I'm confident and happy!

Of course, my journey has been filled with many ups and downs; I'm human.

But the difference is I've learned and adopted habits that keep me moving forward on my healthy lifestyle goals.

These habits include keeping a food journal, meal planning, meal prep, exercise, and others to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

I created the Organize Yourself Skinny eCourse to document the simple strategies I use week after week to sustain a healthy lifestyle and maintain my weight loss.
