FDA Adds Supplemental Materials Translated into Spanish to Agricultural Water Proposed Rule Webpage

December 20, 2021

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a proposed rule that would revise subpart E of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule to change certain pre-harvest agricultural water requirements for covered produce other than sprouts. Under this proposal, farms would be required to conduct annual systems-based agricultural water assessments to determine and guide appropriate measures to minimize potential risks associated with pre-harvest agricultural water. To assist with understanding of the rule the FDA also released an Agricultural water Assessment Fact Sheet and an Expanded Table of Factors to be Considered as part of the Agricultural Water Assessment. The FDA has now made those two documents available in Spanish.

For additional information on the proposed rule see FSMA Proposed Rule on Agricultural Water and the Federal Register Notice announcing the Proposed Rule on Agricultural Water. Comments can be submitted to regulations.gov.
