"Healthy" Foods With More Sodium Than French Fries

These Surprising Foods Are
Packed With Sodium

One of the best things you can do for your heart is to reduce your daily sodium intake.
The most recent USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggest consuming no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day to help prevent hypertension and other health issues. However, the American Heart Association recommends that most adults cut their consumption down to just 1,500 milligrams daily.
To offer perspective on just how many milligrams can be in packaged food—even if these items are considered to be nutritious—we compared the sodium content of four common “healthy” foods to that of McDonald's World Famous Fries. (For context, there are 180 milligrams of sodium in a small serving size of fries, 260 in a medium, and 400 in a large).
You'll probably be surprised to learn which snacks that are often billed as “good for you” have more sodium than a large pack of fries from the Golden Arches.
