friday morning coffee.our best trip ever, the iced coffee recipe I can't stop drinking & how I finally packed the right way! This last week was one of my favorites of the year! We were on our annual family vacation in Northern Michigan and as I’ve mentioned a million times, it’s just my favorite place in the world. My dad’s grandparents (and beyond!) were from this town so it’s been in our family forever. Over the years that I’ve shared this trip on my blog, many of you have even traveled here. I always tell people that it’s my favorite place, but that’s because it holds so much nostalgia and many family ties for me. It’s not the most amazing place in Michigan nor is it the most resort-like. It’s come a long way since I’ve been coming as a kid, but it’s still a lot quieter than many of the other bigger towns on the water. Still! It’s a dream. It’s just so peaceful and FRESH. I always feel incredibly rejuvenated after a week here, even when I don’t take time off. I always still work on this trip - last year, I actually got my cookbook edits the day we left and only had about a week to complete them. So this year definitely seemed milder in terms of work. But even while still working, I feel renewed, I always come back with new goals, new plans, new ideas - and maybe that’s because the next school year is coming. Or maybe it’s just because this place clears my brain! On that same note, this week was the best example of “needing a vacation from your vacation.” My kids are at the best ages but they are also going nonstop 100 miles an hour, and now they have minds of their own (how dare they!) and want to make plans of their own. And the adults (why am I an adult now?!) just kind of want to sit in the sand. I think we all got less sleep on this trip that we have all summer, but it was totally worth it. I love that this has become my kids’ favorite place too and hope they will carry on our tradition of coming for years and years!... Continue reading this post for free in the Substack app |
