When in Penang, eat a lot of char kway teow! Not sure if this dish had Hokkien or Teochew origins, but it was probably the most common and popular street food in Penang. This one was from a stall at a food court on top of Penang Hill and while it was a touristy area (thus prices were slightly higher than usual), the quality was impressive! I watched the lady behind the stall quickly stir-fry everything together - flat noodles, egg, bean sprouts, and shrimp - and it was literally ready within 20 seconds. Ahh the smell of "wok hey", so heavenly to a Cantonese person! It was so flavourful and tasty that we got a second serving...well, mainly because the portion size was way too small (and we found this to be a common phenomenon in Penang street food). Still, this was damn amazing and one of the reason why I'd go back to Penang any time!
