State gaming officials announced that Arizona is one of the newest states targeted by fraudulent online casinos. Watch the report.

The Arizona Gaming Department issued a consumer protection alert, citing complaints about misleading social media advertisements, apps, and websites.

"Just because you can download the apps, visit the website, and play the games, it does not mean it is a legitimate and legal gaming platform," the department said in a statement.

Unlike sports betting, which is legal in the state, online casinos are neither legal nor regulated to protect players from fraud.

Article Icon 1Two Inmates Mistakenly Released

Pima County officials cited clerical errors for the mistaken release of two jail inmates in the past week.

The sheriff's department identified the inmates as Dimitri Lopez, 24, and Cristian Barrionuevo, 27.

Lopez was released on Thursday night and found and returned to custody on Sunday. Barrionuevo, in jail on a parole violation for burglary, remains at large.

Pima County's history of mistaken releases includes one in 2022 that gained international attention when an inmate was seen running through the streets of Tucson in his underwear.

A decades-long rule allowing electric vehicle drivers to use high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes while driving solo is set to expire this fall. Watch the report.

State transportation officials say that unless the federal government renews a 2005 law granting special privileges for EV drivers, all vehicles using the HOV lanes during peak hours will be expected to have at least two occupants beginning October 1.

The change would also apply to hybrid, natural gas, hydrogen, and other alternative fuel vehicles.
