Hooters' founders in Clearwater have struck a deal to buy back majority ownership of the iconic restaurant chain as its corporate parent, Hooters of America, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

Despite Democrats outspending the GOP by millions in Tuesday's special election, Republicans Randy Fine and Jimmy Patronis easily won in Florida's 1st and 6th districts, expanding the GOP majority in the U.S. House.

Meanwhile, Republican voters settled primaries for three legislative seats, with those chosen advancing to the June 10 Special Election.

In Senate District 19, State Rep. Debbie Mayfield, a former Senator, won over three other candidates with 60.79% of the vote to replace the seat once held by Fine. She now will face Democrat Vance Ahrens in the Fort Myers area.

In the Panhandle in House District 3, former Okaloosa County Commissioner Nathan Boyles topped an eight-candidate field. He will face Democrat Dondre Wise, with the winner of that race succeeding former Rep. Joel Rudman, who resigned to make an unsuccessful run for Congress.

In House District 32, insurance company owner Brian Hodgers won his race and will compete against Democrat Juan Hinojosa to decide who will succeed outgoing Mayfield in the Melbourne area.

Hooters' founders in Clearwater have struck a deal to buy back majority ownership of the iconic restaurant chain as its corporate parent, Atlanta-based Hooters of America, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

Hooters Inc. and Hoot Owl Restaurants, two of the company's largest franchisees that include some of the company's founders, will buy 100 company-owned locations.

Hooters did not disclose the purchase price of the transaction, which a U.S. bankruptcy judge must approve before it becomes final. The first Hooters opened in Clearwater on April Fools' Day in 1983.
