A North Carolina appeals court ruled Friday that 65,000 ballots being challenged as ineligible by Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin were wrongly allowed in his race against incumbent Democratic Associate Justice Allison Riggs.

The court also ruled that ballots cast by overseas voters who have never lived in the U.S. should not count.

The ruling gives the affected voters 15 days to provide the information needed to prove their ballots are eligible. Ballots belonging to voters who don’t meet the deadline will not count.

The 2-1 decision, with Republican judges composing the majority, could flip the result, which currently gives Riggs a 734-vote lead.

The Houston Cougars overcame a 14-point deficit in the final eight minutes of Saturday’s NCAA semifinal to defeat the Duke Blue Devils 70–67. The win secures Houston's place in tonight’s national championship game against Florida, set for 8:50 p.m.

Duke freshman standout Cooper Flagg scored 27 points but didn’t attempt another shot after hitting a three-pointer with 3:02 remaining—a moment when the Blue Devils held a 9-point lead.

Houston capitalized on key plays, including a controversial foul that enabled J’Wan Roberts’ free throws to give the Cougars the lead with 19.6 seconds remaining.

Ahead of the semifinal, Flagg was announced as the John R. Wooden Award men’s winner, which honors the country’s top player.

Protestors across North Carolina participated in a nationwide “Hands Off! condemnation of the Trump administration’s layoffs and infrastructure cuts Saturday.

Triangle demonstrations were held in Morrisville, Durham, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, and near the State Capitol in Raleigh, with one resident calling it an “abuse of power.” The Raleigh protest attracted around 4,000, while in eastern North Carolina, 1,100 protested near the Azalea Festival in Wilmington.

An estimated 3,500 people attended the Charlotte rally, with protesters marching from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Social Services Department to the Mint Museum.

Over 2,000 people gathered in downtown Greensboro with some chanting, “Forward together—not one step back!”

A North Carolina GOP spokesperson defended President Trump’s actions as rebuilding the nation’s economy to make the country a “manufacturing superpower again.”
