| Monday, January 20, 2025 | | Good morning! On this day in 1775, settlers on the Virginia frontier submitted the Fincastle Resolutions to the Continental Congress. All of the signers were landowners who opposed royal tyranny and vowed to defend their privileges as British subjects. Similar resolutions were passed by dozens of Virginia counties. Welcome to Inauguration Day 2025, where the weather is cold and the Commanders are hot. The Virginia Flyover has more to say about both in Top Stories. Also, check out the poll to vote for (or against) Jayden Daniels. Hit reply to tell us if you think we should be chanting "MVP" instead. We're flying today with Energous. Be sure to check them out in today's edition. | Trump's Second Term Begins Donald J. Trump will be sworn in at noon today, becoming the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms. Many law enforcement officers from the Old Dominion will be on hand to help, including an Emergency Response Team attached to the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department. Trump and incoming Vice President J.D. Vance laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery Sunday, ahead of the event. Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered flags across the Commonwealth to be at full-staff today “in recognition of the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States.” Flags will return to half-staff tomorrow and remain so until Jan. 28 to commemorate Jimmy Carter's passing. | Commanders to Vie for NFC Crown The Washington Commanders will visit the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game next Sunday after upsetting the top-seeded Lions in Detroit. It's the first time the franchise has advanced this far in the playoffs since 1992, when it won its third Super Bowl. Washington was led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who completed 22 passes for 299 yards, rushed for 51 yards, and accounted for two TDs. The team grabbed the lead midway through the second quarter and never trailed again, eventually scoring six touchdowns against the Lions in a 45-31 victory. The Commanders’ defense is not considered the team’s strongest unit, but it forced five turnovers and picked off Lions quarterback Jared Goff four times. “I always believe,” Daniels said after the win. “Just put your head down and grind.” | MLK Day Commemorations In Virginia Today's federal holiday honors the great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrations have been taking place across the Commonwealth throughout the weekend, with more events planned for today. In Central Virginia, events include the first annual MLK Day Parade in Petersburg and two "MLK Day of Service" opportunities. Celebrations are scheduled in all seven cities in the Hampton Roads area. Click here for the latest list. In Northern Virginia, commemorations include a wreath-laying ceremony and prayer service at Dr. King’s memorial statue on the National Mall. Like The Virginia Flyover? Flying together with our sponsor Say Goodbye to the Power Cord Nikola Tesla said powering the world without wires was of “all-surpassing importance.” This technology wasn’t possible in Tesla’s time, but one company is helping to make it a reality today—and you can invest for a limited time. Their patented technology is like Wi-Fi for power. It transmits power to devices through the air, eliminating the need for cables and batteries and providing a constant, reliable energy source for IoT devices that track and deliver data in real time. It’s such a powerful innovation, that it earned “IoT Innovation of the Year” honors. Data is the oil that keeps retail, manufacturing, and logistics operations running smoothly. Thanks to these wireless power network transmitters, all of these industries could get a 24/7 flow of data without depending on batteries or cords—it’s potentially a combined $650B market opportunity. That’s why this company has already landed a contract to supply wireless power network solutions to a Fortune 10 multinational retailer, opening them up to 4,700 retail locations across the U.S. You now have a unique opportunity to invest in Energous by purchasing investment units that include 1 convertible preferred share (convertible into 2 common shares on Nasdaq: WATT) and 3 warrants to purchase additional common shares at a fixed price.
