Article Icon 1Stone Crab Season Clawing Ahead

The stone crab season has had a slow start for Florida harvesters after Hurricanes Helene and Milton set harvesting back by two weeks.

The 2024-2025 commercial season opened as scheduled on Oct. 15, but harvesters were unable to set their traps 10 days earlier, as normally permitted, due to the impact of Hurricane Helene.

Concerned about losing traps, which cost approximately $50 each, most fishermen waited until both storms were over and all warnings were lifted before setting their baited traps and beginning the harvest.

Florida supplies nearly all of the nation's stone crab claws. This Southern delicacy is the most expensive domestic seafood in the U.S. when measured by price per pound.

Article Icon 1‘No on One’ Amendment Rally in Miami

On Wednesday, students and school board members converged at a No on One rally at the Miami-Dade County School Board Administration Building to oppose Amendment 1, which would politicize school board elections. See the full amendment here.

Under current Florida law, candidates for school board positions appear on the ballot without political affiliations. However, if Amendment 1 is approved on Nov. 5, this would change.

The amendment would overturn a law ensuring school board races in the state of Florida are nonpartisan. For the past 25 election cycles, school board candidates haven't been identified as Democrats or Republicans on ballots.

If passed, Amendment 1 would require voters to register as either Republicans or Democrats to participate in primary elections for school board candidates.

Article Icon 1Early Voting Overturns Democratic Lead

According to early numbers from the state's Division of Elections, more than 1.3 million Floridians have already cast their vote for the Nov. 5 election.

Republicans have significantly outvoted Democrats across the state so far this week, reversing the turnout lead Democrats had built over the past month through mail-in voting.

Early voting on Tuesday nearly matched Monday's record-breaking turnout, marking a strong start for the state's early voting period.

Orange County officials reported they broke their first-day record of early voting with more than 18,150 voters showing up at the polls.

This is what many Americans are searching for when they invest in precious metals like gold and silver. But what's the best way to buy these precious metals? Do you buy an ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), or do you get your hands on the real thing? Here's the thing about ETFs… You don't actually own the gold or silver.

You can't take physical delivery of the metal. Taxes and fees can eat away at your gains. Shares may or may not have sufficient gold or silver backing. But with physical gold or silver, you are the one in the driver's seat. You have the control you're looking for with your hard-earned money.
