Article Icon 1Execution Delay Continues

Death row inmate Robert Roberson, whose execution was delayed hours before it was scheduled last week, did not appear Monday before the Texas House committee that had issued a last-minute subpoena.

Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office refused to allow Roberson, convicted of killing his daughter in 2003, to appear in person over security concerns. The committee declined to take his testimony virtually.

Meanwhile, Gov. Greg Abbott has asked the Texas Supreme Court to throw out the House committee’s subpoena. At issue is whether the state's "junk science" law should overturn Roberson's conviction for the controversial "shaken baby" diagnosis.

A helicopter carrying three adults and a child crashed into a radio tower Sunday night near downtown Houston. There were no survivors.

The tower’s lights were reported as inoperable as recently as October 16, though distant security camera footage of the crash appears to show the tower light flashing.

The crash caused the tower to collapse, sparking a fire in the area. No injuries were reported on the ground. (Watch Video)

South Texas farmers and ranchers can now draw irrigation water from the Rio Grande following a new executive order from Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.

Miller noted that runoff from heavy rains in Mexico is being wasted due to what he called unnecessary restrictions. Texas officials say Mexico hasn't adhered to the current water agreement.

Enough is enough," Miller said. "We're done sitting around waiting for someone else to act. Texas should always take care of Texans.
