Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Department of Homeland Security for failing to respond to inquiries about the citizenship status of over 450,000 registered voters.

Paxton acknowledged that, although most voters in question are likely citizens, the state could not confirm their citizenship status because they registered without providing a Texas-issued driver's license or identification card.

After receiving the request, DHS stated that an online tool called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program "is the most secure and efficient way to reliably verify an individual's citizenship or immigration status."

The lawsuit, however, claims the program "is not an adequate tool" for this purpose.

The Port of Galveston rejected a proposed deal to provide docking space for the refurbished Battleship Texas, despite a statement indicating they want to find a permanent home for the historic dreadnought.

The Port's board cited concerns about the cost of moving the ship and the lack of a formal agreement between the foundation that manages it and Landry’s, a busy restaurant next to the proposed location.

In recent months, another restaurant, Katie’s Seafood House, has sought to halt the ship’s relocation to a pier that would hinder its patrons’ view of the harbor.

Battleship Texas Foundation chairman Thomas Penich expressed disappointment with the decision but insisted that “the future of the Battleship remains bright, and we look forward to finding her forever home.”

A Texas man is awaiting extradition to Houston after being apprehended by authorities in Iowa on an outstanding warrant for the 2022 murder of his brother.

Kyle Coolack, 37, confessed to the murder Saturday in a conversation with his new girlfriend, Janey Voyek, who met him last week on a blind date arranged by her brother.

Coolack is charged with killing his brother Brad in Houston in March 2022 after being confronted about an affair with Brad's wife while he was deployed overseas.
