Hurricane Helene caused an estimated $6.46 billion in losses to Georgia's farms, according to initial assessments from the University of Georgia. The southwest and southeast parts of Georgia were particularly hard hit.

The destruction primarily affected the state's pecan, cotton, peanut, and timber industries. Timber damage alone is estimated at $1.28 billion, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Farmers are facing extensive recovery efforts, including replanting trees and crops that may take years to return to full production.

Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tyler Harper emphasized the need for federal aid to help farmers recover.

Two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, have settled their defamation lawsuit against The Gateway Pundit and its owners.

The Missouri-based conservative website accused them of fraud in the 2020 presidential election, claiming they introduced "suitcases" of illegal ballots.

This accusation was debunked by multiple investigations, including those by Georgia state officials, who found no evidence of widespread voter fraud at the State Farm Arena.

Although the terms of the settlement were not disclosed, both parties expect actions to be completed by March 2024

Article Icon 1Hot Meal Purchases Approved After Helene

The USDA has approved a waiver for Georgia residents impacted by Hurricane Helene, allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to purchase hot and prepared foods.

This temporary waiver applies to residents in 42 Georgia counties affected by the hurricane, ensuring that those in need can access meals that do not require home preparation.

The waiver will be in effect until the end of October, providing SNAP with flexibility in their food purchases as they recover from the storm’s devastation.

This move addresses the immediate needs of those who may have lost access to their kitchens or face other disruptions caused by the hurricane.
