Hey there reader!
π I hope you're doing great as we finish the first week of 2024. I must say, I'm feeling a surge of motivation, unlike any start to a new year in recent memory.
The last few years have been quite the whirlwind, and truth be told, I've somewhat veered off the path. It's not something I like admitting, but being human comes with its ups and downs, and I think it's important to be honest about that. ❤️
Juggling kids, work, and the daily grind can be overwhelming, and somewhere along the way, I realized I'd been neglecting my own health and wellness. It's funny, but it took a moment of quiet reflection for me to see that I had put myself on the back burner without even noticing.
ππ»♀️ I bet you've been there too. As a mother, wife, and woman, it's almost second nature to prioritize others over ourselves. It's all too easy to let personal care, like exercise, relaxation, healthy eating, and meal prep, slip through the cracks while we're busy handling a million other responsibilities.
π That's why this year, I've set a singular, powerful goal: to show up for myself. To prioritize my physical and mental health and embrace the activities that bring out the best in me.
I've been thinking a lot about what it means to feel my best, because when I do, everything else just seems to fall into place. I'm a happier person, a more attentive wife and mom, a better friend, and overall, just a better human.
So, what does 'feeling my best' look like for me? Here's the rundown:
➡️ Getting Back to Regular Exercise: This is a biggie. The past couple of years have thrown some health curveballs my way – from COVID to colds – and life events like my kids graduating and heading to college, all while running a business. It's been a whirlwind, and I admit, exercise took a backseat. But now, I'm ready to reignite my passion for breaking a sweat and feeling strong.
Just this week, I went for a run for the first time in over a year, and it felt incredible! Plus, I've managed to squeeze in some resistance exercises too. My goal isn't to go extreme, but to weave exercise back into my daily routine.
➡️ Eating Right: High-Protein, 'Lowish' Carbs: Last year, I tuned into how my body reacts to different foods. Despite my love for pasta and pizza, I've realized that a high-protein, lower-carb diet works best for me. I'm all about those protein shakes and keeping dinner on the high-protein, low-carb side.
Of course, smoothies and mason jar salads are non-negotiable! They're a must in my daily diet. I know smoothies include sugar and carbs from fruits but I love the way I feel when eating them plus, it's not the natural organic fruit that causes the issues in my diet π€£
➡️ Snack Control: I'll be honest; my snacking went a bit overboard last year. So, this year is all about mindful snacking. So, I will prioritize tracking so I can keep my snacking in check.
➡️ Rest and Relaxation: As someone who's always on the move, slowing down is crucial. I'm making a pact with myself to take breaks – a week off every quarter, a lighter schedule in summer, and the entire month of December off. I know I've tried to do this in the past and failed. But this year it's a must and I'm really committed to this!
If you've read this far, then you're probably nodding along. But, I won't keep you much longer – meal prep awaits! Next week, I'll share some of the positive strides I've made.
