Hello dear friends, family, community,
I want to bring some light to your mailbox today, and I hope I do. But I also have to acknowledge that this moment is incredibly challenging, and I think we are all feeling the collective grief for so many suffering. I took some time away to learn, listen, and reflect on how I can help. I'll share some links below for donations if you are able to contribute any small amount. And I invite you who are reading this to embody what you want to see in the world: peace, compassion, love, care, harmony, liberty, justice, freedom for all. Hold these values in your heart, live them, and share them.
November is upon us now, and the trees are nearly bare. Autumn winds bring a chill that is both refreshing and threatening…we all know that the real cold is imminent! I am keeping warm with layers, my quilted winter pants, long-steeped teas, and soups. In the evenings I've been curled up by the fire with a great book (that I share down below), and putting the last touches on our backyard sauna - I'll share soon!
This month I'm featuring a veg that, in my opinion, should get a lot more attention. It may not be the most elegant or vibrant piece of produce, but it's delicate flavour, versatility, and long shelf-life make it a seasonal treasure. Celeriac, a.k.a. celery root is indeed found growing underneath the common celery stalks that we are more familiar with. Of course celeriac has a celery-like flavour, but it is also nutty and remarkably creamy when pureed. I love it in mash and soup, but it's also delicious raw! Grate it into a salad, top a taco, or turn it into 'kraut. So crunchy and yum. Lots more about this wonder veggie coming right up!
And here are some global resources to consider supporting if you're able:
Doctors Without Borders
Save the Children
Unicef
Oxfam
