For the month of March, I'm taking over the Friday Well Equipped newsletter to bring you manageable tips for spring cleaning those out-of-sight, out-of-mind spots in your kitchen. |
Your Kitchen Is Likely Hiding Some Crumbs. Here's Where to Find Them |
Most of us tend to stay on top of the kitchen cleaning jobs that, if left undone, would make even the most well-equipped space feel inhospitable for cooking. We wipe the counters and stove top, we clean spills and splatters as they happen, and we do the damn dishes because they aren't going to do themselves.
But even those of us who truly enjoy a lemon-scented deep clean can sometimes overlook a few high-traffic spots that rarely see the light of day. I'm guilty of it, too. Or at least I used to be. For years, I ignored the three vessels that held my most important kitchen tools: my utensil crock, my silverware tray, and my knife block. Though my hand hovered over them frequently—usually while I was actively cooking—I never considered what might be trapped inside.
If you can't remember the last time you cleaned your crocks and caddies, remove the tools and take a peek. While you're at it, turn them all upside down and see what comes out. Whether you dislodge a few measly crumbs or a feast fit for a king-sized mouse, you'll hopefully be inspired to clean those spots somewhat regularly from now on. It's quick and easy to do with your vacuum cleaner's crevice attachment, but if you don't have a crevice tool—or if you want to eliminate some of the crumb catching altogether—check out my tips below. |
