Conversations to inspire your wellness journey | How to de-stress |
On this week's episode of Wellness With Ella, I'm joined by Jonny Wilkinson, former England rugby player. We were lucky enough to hear a lot of Jonny's untold story in this interview, getting to the heart of how he really felt when, on the outside, he was achieving all the external accolades he could have ever dreamed of, the moments he lacked self-worth, his struggles with anxiety and depression, and exactly what he did to move forward to get to a happier and healthier place. It's a vulnerable yet empowering conversation touching on navigating external expectations, reconciling different parts of yourself, embracing fear and cultivating self-trust, as well as Jonny's daily(ish) wellness habits. | |
| Every day we take about 25.000 breaths. It's a process that's so automatic most of us almost forget about it, yet our breathing can have a huge impact on our health, including reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, supporting better digestion and reducing the risk of chronic disease. A large analysis of 26 studies published earlier this year shows people who regularly practised breathwork, slow, deep, conscious breathing, had lower levels of self-reported stress than those who didn't. The best part? Researchers found you can reap the benefits in just 60 seconds. My takeaway from this research? Another brilliant example of how small habits make the world of difference. Slow, deep breathing is a free, simple tool that we can all access when life gets overwhelming. I certainly find it incredibly useful in my life and I've noticed that many of my podcast guests have been talking about the huge impact it's had on their mental health too. Jonny Wilkinson, my guest this week and one of the world's greatest rugby players, said it was part of his daily(ish) tool kit too. | Tune into our new podcast if you're looking for unfiltered and empowering conversations that give you the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to transform your life and your health, there are now six episodes live of Wellness With Ella. | |
