Hello reader A while back I asked you if you'd like more tempeh recipes. The overwhelming answer was yes. So I've been doing just that. This week's post is one such. It's a recipe for gado gado which, if you're not in the know, is an Indonesian vegetable salad with an awesome spicy peanut sauce. In Indonesia, tempeh is the main protein source they use for this salad, though they do sometimes use tofu instead or as well as. Tempeh has its fans, but alas, many have still not heard of it. Like tofu, it's made with soy beans, though you can use other beans too. But unlike tofu, it's fermented. This not only makes it easier to digest, but also gives it more protein, fibre and vitamins. It has a nice chewy texture too. Anyway, you can probably tell I'm a fan. CT used to make it for us back in the day, but it does take a bit of time and space and his enthusiasm ran out. It's a shame because it was the best tempeh I've ever had. Back to the gado gado. It's a salad of mostly steamed or lightly blanched vegetables with a few raw ones thrown in for good measure. You can use whatever vegetables you like, but potatoes, green beans and cabbage are traditional. It's a complete meal in itself and naturally vegan, unless you add boiled eggs, which is also quite common. I've added eggs to my recipe, but they're not in the least bit necessary. Do give it a go if you haven't tried it before (or even if you have) and let me know how you get on. If you were one of the ones that wanted more, here are a few of my other tempeh recipes. Please do let me know if you make any of my recipes and don't forget to star rate them. It really helps to make them more visible on search engines. Questions or feedback via comments on the blog posts are always appreciated.
Keep cooking and stay safe. Choclette x
